These incredible devices made us rethink software. So we took our award-winning Freefall application and rebuilt it from the ground up as a virtual planetarium:
Skyward View
Take the perspective of someone standing on the ground looking up. Chances are you won't see many satellites (but they're there).
Planets, Stars, Constellations, and Deep-Sky Objects
You will see a lot of stars, though. And sometimes planets, and if you have a pair of good binoculars or a telescope, some strikingly beautiful deep-sky objects. Freefall HD includes over 9,000 of the brightest stars, the 88 internationally recognized constellations, other planets in our solar system, and the Moon. It also includes the 110 astronomical objects first catalogued by Charles Messier.
Photorealistic Background
A 360° x 180° panoramic background immerses you completely in the night sky.
Choose a location nearly anywhere on Earth
Though the panoramic background won't change, you can view the sky from over 75,000 cities around the world, and it's easy to find the ones nearest your current location.
Dynamic Time
We redesigned time control using an intuitive, draggable timeline (it even goes backwards).
All your Favorite Satellites
Freefall HD uses the same industry-standard SGP4/SDP4 orbit propagation algorithms to predict satellite motion and the classic satellite groups (GPS, Iridium, etc.) found in our other software. But it's easier than ever to track your favorite satellites if they aren't already in these lists – you can quickly add them from the full Space-Track catalog of over 15,000 satellites!
